The NMC Children’s Choir is accepting new singers in January. Students in Kindergarten through grade 4, who love to sing and want to improve their abilities, are invited to participate in NMC's award-winning Children's Choir program.

Prelude Choir is NMCCC’s introductory program for Kindergarten-1st Grade singers. This non-auditioned group meets Tuesday evenings for an 8-week session. In Prelude, young singers have the opportunity to learn about their voices and learn basic singing techniques in a friendly, nurturing environment.
  • Rehearsals at NMC from January 6 to February 24 on Tuesdays, 5:00-5:45 p.m.
  • Directed by veteran NMCCC and TCAPS instructor, Jamie Moreland.
  • Tuition is $149.
  • To register your child for Prelude, please visit the new NMC Extended Education website.

Dolce Choir is a unique, non-auditioned, beginning singing experience for boys and girls in 2nd and 3rd grade who love to sing, are willing to work hard, have the maturity to work in a large group for a sixty-minute rehearsal and want to improve their abilities.
  • Basic singing, music reading and performing skills.
  • Quality song literature for children’s choir.
  • Rehearsals at NMC from January 6 to April 28 on Tuesdays, 6:00-7:00 p.m., and monthly Saturday rehearsals.
  • Performances in February and April.
  • Directed by veteran NMCCC and TCAPS instructor, Jamie Moreland.
  • Tuition is $199.
  • To register your child for Dolce, please visit the new NMC Extended Education website.
  • Children in 3rd grade may enroll in Dolce without an audition but are encouraged to audition (see below) to ensure that they are placed in the most appropriate choir.

AUDITIONS FOR DOLCE AND BEL CANTO (Winter 2026)

Auditions for students joining Dolce or Bel Canto in January 2026 will be held Wednesday, January 7 (6:00pm-8:00pm) at Northwestern Michigan College. The audition involves singing the first verse of "America the Beautiful" and performing simple vocal exercises. Student placement in one of the six choirs depends on both chronological age and musical and vocal readiness.

"Singing is the major means of musical experience in the NMC Children’s Choir program. Singing is a powerfully personal means of musical expression. We hope this experience will form the foundation of a lifelong relationship with music for the singers and their families and provide the  choir members with social, educational, and skill development opportunities."
